The secret to being a good writer…

I’ve discovered the secret to being a good writer and thought I would share it with you.

Drinking wine.

Yesterday, April and I were walking down the street to our favorite coffee shop in Walnut Creek to get some work done on the screenplay when SCURT!!!! I looked up to see a small wine bar that I had never noticed before….Artisan Wine Lounge & Cafe.

Now it’s Sunday, so having a glass of wine at one in the afternoon is all good. So instead of coffee, we worked for nearly four hours on the screenplay over a large variety of wine. The environment was perfect – intimate but not so quiet where April and I would feel like we were bugging the other patrons if we talked (like we do at the coffee shop). Plus, they had a comfy couch.
And they had our ultimate favorite wine, Lang & Reed Cabernet Franc.

We’ve never had such an efficient day working on a screenplay than yesterday and I’m pretty sure it was due to the wine. We were bouncing great ideas off each other and nearly finished the entire outline. The story now looks like something people would actually watch :) .

Moral of the story is I’m going to stop going to the coffee shop and instead work over glasses of cab, merlot, and rose…and I’m sure this masterpiece will be done soon! :)

Did I ever share with you my wonderful story of writing in a bar in Paris?

I was sipping a latte, waiting for my mom to get out of the loo (which is the actual reason I had to buy the latte, so she would be allowed access). Trying to make the
most of my time, I pulled out my Moleskine and starting puttering away.

Some more tourists came in and were being loud and having a nice time, as tourists should do, when the bartender told them all to shush up. (At least I think he did, I still can’t manage much French, but I got the intention from the tone) He then gestured to me, as if I was doing something VERY important.

    I loved it!

Moral: even if the wine doesn’t help the writing, you’re sure to look cool writing in public! HA
