Waste of time…
2009 April 22
I got into a discussion about homosexuality with a woman I don’t know on facebook last night (yeah… kind of lame). It was sparked when this woman, we’ll call her Sally, commented on a question posted by a friend in regards to whether religious and personal beliefs need always be in line, or can people deter from their religious teachings based on their personal experiences.
The question my friend posted had nothing to do with homosexuality, but Sally took it there, responding that it would be hypocritical to call oneself a Christian and yet be supportive of homosexuality.
reading Sally’s response + my recent frustrations + a glass of wine = I jumped on it quick.
Back and forth we went – the same shit that always gets argued from both sides. “The Bible says” vs. “true civil rights.” It’s tiring… it really is. And it’s really impossible to argue with somebody when you’re questioning what they base their entire life on.
And overall I almost feel that it’s a waste of time. On the surface it appears like Sally and I were coming together, sharing out thoughts and talking things out. When in actuality, each of us are typing one thing, but I’m behind my monitor with middle fingers up thinking Sally’s a homophobic bi-atch, and Sally’s behind her computer with her middle fingers up, thinking I’m some perverted homo.
Who knows…

Yup, probably a waste of time, but if you don’t argue others who disagree will probably never understand.
