How should I do my hair?

Some of the quarterfinalists of the 2009 Cyberspace Open have already gotten their scores from round two. But for me, it’ll be another day of being email obsessed, refreshing my inbox every five minutes.

In between checking my email, I’m continuing to work on my pitch for My Brother Mick. I’ve completed my first draft of how I’m going to present it, so I’ll be spending this week tweaking, memorizing, and perfecting it so I’ll be as ready as possible to rock it when I take the seat across the table from a production company representative at the Golden Pitch Festival in two weeks. Making the pitch as strong as possible is number one on this week’s priority list.

Number two is continuing to tighten up the script. There are always ways to improve it, and I want it to be as strong as possible as well, so that after I nail the pitch and they request a copy, the product is ready.

Number three on the priority list this week, however, is figuring out my look for the pitch. Of course my work should stand on it’s own, and it may sound lame to some, but I’m not naive to think that looks don’t matter. I am a woman, which means I fully understand how influential appearances are to how one is respected. I want to give a great first impression of my work AND myself to everyone I meet that weekend.

Diablo Cody is an incredibly talented writer who deserves every accolade she’s received, but I’m pretty sure she’s been able to promote herself and her work because of her cool look and personality.

So included on my Expo to-do list, right after “perfect pitch” and “book the pet sitter,” is “make a hair appointment” and “figure out what to wear.”
