We bought our house when both the global and our personal finances where stable. We found a house that we liked, placed a bid on it and got it. Problem free. But you know, this frustration you feel now, could be used in your writing. Keep those annoying feelings as notes in a basket to found when you need you character to feel - well - what you feel now.
