2011 Nicholl Notification

Saturday morning I started the day the same way I always do. I snatched up my phone to check my email.

Nicholl notification!

To summarize:

Queen To Be did not make it as one of the 351 scripts chosen as Quarterfinalists. For your script to make it to the next round, it has to receive positive scores from three separate readers.

* Out of the 6,730 scripts entered, 2,900 scripts received an initial positive read score and garnered a second read.
* Out of the 2,900 scripts who received a second read, over 850 scripts received a second positive read score and thus moved on to receive a third read.
* Queen To Be received two positive read scores.

Therefore, while Queen To Be didn’t make it passed round one, it did receive two out of three positive reads. Last year the script I entered didn’t receive one positive read, so while not making the cut still blows, it feels good to know that two people connected with the story.

Oh hi.

It’s been a little bit since we visited. There has been a lot going on and blah… blah… blah…

The typical. Life’s been busy so my blog has been the first to get pushed to the side. But, hopefully things are starting to calm down.

The folks at Nicholl’s decided that my script, Super Ted, was not one of the 326 to make it on to their quarterfinals. The news stung for about seven hours, but I feel like I haven’t had an opportunity to really dwell on it. I’m rewriting it and prepping to send query letters out at the end of this week.

After the news from Nicholl’s, and with Script PIMP giving Super Ted the boot earlier in the month, the contest recap as of now is as follows:

On a non-writing note, we’re getting the house! The drama for your mama finally came to an end and we’re just waiting for some conditions to be taken care of for the loan. Hopefully we’ll be heading over into the new spot in the first week of August. Yeah… hopefully, cause we’ve already given our 30 day notice to our landlord.

It’s April 30th, one day before the Nicholl’s deadline. This week has been a motherfreaker. I haven’t slept and it’ll probably take days for all of this caffeine to flush out of my system.

This morning, however, I finished my Super Hero script. I’m going to do one more read-through and clean-up pass, then send that thing off later today.

It’s a damn good feeling. Although this week has been tough, I’m thankful for every bit of it.

+ my wife for handling all the chores, brainstorming with me, building my confidence up, and giving me honest feedback

+ Coco Swirl, for supplementing the every important final brainstorming session last night

Wait… it’s Friday already?

I’m close to needing scotch tape to keep my eyes open.

I haven’t had much going on this week besides work, but that’s enough to be thankful for:

+ made huge strides on Super Hero. It will be ready to submit to Nicholl’s.

+ the landlord disposed of the wasps’ nest on the front porch

+ this weekend I get to write, and also have a little bit of fun planned

Date Night

Sucked it up despite the rain and moseyed on over to the movie theater yesterday to catch Date Night. It wasn’t perfect, but it was easily worth the ten bucks and the stomach ache from the entire bag of popcorn and a whole pack of Twizzlers that it cost me. Tina Fey and Steve Carrell were hilarious. Plus, any flick featuring Marky Mark is typically going to get a pass from me.

25 Days Until Nicholl’s

With 25 days until the deadline for Nicholl’s, b.s. time is over. I can’t be whiney, self-conscious, or take my time any longer with Superhero. It needs to get done.

I was able to catch Hot Tub Time Machine this weekend, which was entertaining, to say the least. I laughed out loud a bunch of times. It’s not as good as The Hangover, but it had the same type of strong comedic performances.

It’s been added to my “Flix Watched in 2010” list. Scriptshadow recently reviewed the script and has it up for download on their site.
