Thankful Friday 2/25

I am one lucky mother-junker.

This week I am thankful for…

+ Adele’s sophomore album, 21, came out on Tuesday, so I took an hour that afternoon and ran over to Amoeba with a friend to snatch it up.  That same friend and I saw Adele perform at a tiny bar in SF a few years ago. We got there way too early and Adele was chilling outside on the curb smoking. We were so early that it was just the two of us there during sound check. At that time she was self-conscious Adele who was too uncomfortable to face us. Now, she’s confident and rocking it. She has exploded and it’s awesome to see her get the attention that she deserves.

Buy the album NOW. (Amazon, iTunes)

+ I recently discussed J Dilla and the inspiration his art provides me on a daily basis. Now I’ve got him up on my wall. This image is taken just before he was forced into the hospital for the final time. He was no longer healthy enough to go to the studio and had to set up his system in his home. Listening to his music makes me feel like I can take on the world. You can order one via Stones Throw.

+ My wife and I said screw being responsible and eating at home and instead went and got burritos for dinner last night. They were amazing. I am thankful.

+ I was able to finish my entry for Round One of the Cyberspace Open after a torturous three days of staring at a blank screen and experiencing a slight emotional breakdown.

This weekend I get to watch my sister in-law and the women’s college basketball team she coaches play their final regular season home game, watch the Oscars (yes!), as well as prepare for next week’s trip to Scottsdale, where my wife and I will be relaxing and watching the beloved World Champion San Francisco Giants.

Have a great weekend!

Thankful Friday 2/18

It seems I need to once again reevaluate my overall New Years resolution to slow the hell down. I’ve got too much going on and am rarely not anxious.

Last night I ended up just turning off my computer and listening to music. No multitasking… just my butt in the seat with music playing. It was exactly what I needed.

Although I’m stressed, this week I’m thankful for the opportunities that I’ve been given. The positives of this week include:

+ I finished the first draft of my script.

+ I’m starting to act like an adult and am blessed that I have people around me that are doing the same. I love the people in my life and hope they always stay there.

+ My wife is the most supportive person ever.

+ I’m thankful that I didn’t waste time watching the Grammy’s. Sounds like it was a bust per usual.

+ I’m taking a break in the middle of the day today. I’m working until noon and then am going to go out exploring by myself because I’ve got the CS Open starting tonight and will be slammed all weekend.

Hope you all have a great three day weekend.

Thankful Friday 1/28

Being an adult sometimes blows. This morning I want to be selfish and irresponsible.

I’m up early today. Woke up at four with things on my mind and couldn’t fall back asleep — might as well work on something positive instead of staring into darkness and letting my brain run amok with nonconstructive thoughts.

The positives this week:

+ There was progress made on the script.

+ I wrote all of the freelance articles that were available.

+ I finished reading a book. This is monumental.

+ Purchased a new mailbox yesterday. The previous owners of the house took the keys of the one we have now, so I’ve been slicing up my hand on a daily basis pulling out the mail. No more!

Have a great weekend.

Thankful Friday 1/21

Although I’m struggling to keep my eyes open, this week has been pretty amazing.

+ Progress made everyday on the first draft of the script

+ Met and spent an hour with Robert Mark Kamen, badass screenwriter

+ Week #3 of the half-marathon training program completed

+ Watched 127 Hours.  The film is an amazing accomplishment.

+ I won a free iPad from the company that I write freelance articles for and it came yesterday.  Yes!

+ My wife and I scored an awesome rocking chair at a used furniture store and it looks like money on the front porch.

+ Had another great day at my internship. Check out this framed photo that’s right outside our meeting room:

This weekend is going to be dedicated to spending time with friends and my wife, and hopefully getting some writing in and work done around the house.  Have a great one!

Thankful Friday 1/7

My wife gives me crap about having “Thankful Friday”.  She says it’s easy to be thankful on the day leading into the weekend, challenging me to change it to “Thankful Monday” and see how blessed I feel then.

But, I like taking Friday to look over what I was able to accomplish and experience over the week.  I guess you should always look forward, but whatever…

+ Had my first official day at my new internship.  I haven’t really talked about it too much on here, but for the next six months I’ll be contributing to sf360.org, an online publication that keeps up with the Bay Area film world.  I’m a big fan of the site and feel blessed to have the opportunity to contribute to its continued success.

+ I spent some time this week on two stories I’m currently developing for the sf360.org site, which are interviews of some really incredible local individuals involved in the film world.  I’ll have links to each of these articles once they’re finished and up on the site.

+ Finished season three of Dexter!  On to season four!

+ Week one of training for the half marathon completed.  So far, so good.  Oooh… and I ordered some new running shoes.

I feel like I’m starting to find my groove.  I’m still swamped and slightly overwhelmed, but I’ve been able to organize and prioritize to ensure that the “have-to’s” are getting done.

This weekend should be fun.  Going to go celebrate my mother-in-law’s b-day with a movie on Saturday, paint the front porch on Sunday.  Tonight, I’ll be hanging out at D-Structure in the city, which along with my all-time favorite clothing brand, Unscripted Clothing, will be hosting an art show titled, “The American Dream”.  If you don’t have plans, come out!

Thankful Friday 12/10

Hilarious that when writing the title of this post, I actually looked up the date…

Cause it’s my birthday today!  I have turned 31.  There’s a lot to be thankful for this week…

+  Tonight I get to have dinner with some very special people.  This alone would be enough to make this week bad-ass.

+ First draft of the latest script is progressing.

+ I’m working on a sweet new art project.  Photos will be available soon.

+ I’m addicted to Dexter.  We just started season 2 this week.  I don’t know if this is a good or bad thing.  Actually, I don’ t know if it really has a place in this list, but it popped into my head.

+ Took a couple hours to dig at Amoeba Records in Berkeley this afternoon.  You know what I found?  You know what I found?!  The first pressing of The Roots’ debut album, Organix, which now completes my Roots collection.  I also picked up the hard copy of Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasyand Shad’s TSOL

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Thankful Friday 11/19

Thankful Friday:

+ Nearly done with my treatment.  Writing of the first draft with begin Monday.

+ Found an awesome intern opportunity that I’m applying for today.  Cross your fingers for me, please.

+ Read three quality scripts this week, including Jaws, Pulp Fiction and The Silence of the Lambs.

+ I love that I have inspiring people around me.  All of the people close to me are constantly striving to be better.

+ Purchased a bad-ass salad spinner this week.  No more soggy wet lettuce!

+ It’s expected to rain all weekend in the Bay.  This ruins my painting plans, but maybe it means we’ll head out to watch a couple of movies, including Harry Potter.

+ He may ruffle feathers socially, but Kanye West is releasing My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasyon Monday.

Have a great weekend!

Thankful Friday 11/12

Can’t complain about this past week.  I wasn’t able to put as much time in on my treatment as I wanted, but I’ll be able to make it up over the weekend.

+ Shared some great food and wine with a couple of incredible friends last night.

+ Finally watched I Am Love.  I don’t know what to tell you… I wanted to see it.   Check it out if you like movies that have very slow pacing, spend time giving you close ups of beautiful surrounding elements, and incorporate love and tragedy.  It sounds lame, but I dug it.

+ Read J.F. Lawton’s script for Pretty Woman.  As my wife says, “Some of Julia Roberts’ lines are pretty corny.”  But, it was a good read.

+ Although pick-ens have been slim as of late, I was able to find freelance articles to write.  Yay for being able to afford groceries.

+ Exercise efforts were on point this week.

+ Not much scheduled for the weekend, which is always good and means I can put some time in on work around the house, such as cleaning the gutters.  Does anybody have a ladder they want to sell me?

Hope you have a great weekend!

Thankful Friday 11/5

Today’s Thankful Friday post was actually written on Thursday, and that’s because of my number one item this week to be thankful for.

+ I’ll be taking a four-day weekend as my wife and I are celebrating our 10 year anniversary.  The things that we’ve done and how much we’ve grown together during that time is incredible.

+ As you already know from my previous post, we took the afternoon off on Wednesday to celebrate the 2010 World Series Champion San Francisco Giants.

+ Somehow, I was still able to get some work done this week.

+ I received my first Oaklandish shirt.  I’m now officially part of the city.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Thankful Friday 11/29

My nose is a faucet and my body is tired for no reason, but still it was a great week!

Things I’m thankful for:

+ Watched the SF Giants take a 2-0 lead over the Rangers in the World Series

+ Got some quality work in on my treatment

+ Wrote a random scene… just for fun

+ Read the Coen Brother’s script for To The White Sea.  I don’t really get it, but their ability to visually and yet efficienty describe a setting is amazing.  And there’s no dialogue in the script past page 10.

+ With the rainy weather this weekend, it’s likely we’ll be hitting up the movies over the next couple of days

+ I think my wife and I are purchasing the 25th Anniversary Edition of Back to the Future tonight

+ On Sunday, we get to hand out candy to kids for Halloweeny for the first time ever!

Have a great weekend and Happy Halloweeny!
